The Prince Rupert Regional Community Foundation was the 120th community foundation established in Canada. Since 2001, The Prince Rupert Regional Community Foundation (PRRCF) has been committed to working with other agencies, foundations and organizations to increase the level of charitable giving within the communities of Prince Rupert and those located within the North Coast Regional District.
A community foundation is simply a collection of individual charitable gifts that are pooled and invested carefully. Eighty percent of the investment income is then distributed as grants to registered local not-for-profit organizations. The remainder is reinvested in the capital pool which is never touched but provides a perpetual source of growth and income that can be used to meet our community future needs.
Community foundations are springing up across Canada, as government and corporate funding sources shrink. Community Foundations allow citizens to give back to their communities and leave a permanent legacy. They also assist communities to develop the ability to better meet their own needs. Gifts both small and large help make a difference for the future.

We are one of Canada’s 191 community foundations under the umbrella of the Community Foundations of Canada.
Community foundations contribute time, leadership and financial support to local initiatives, helping people give back where their communities need it most. With an intimate knowledge of local priorities, community foundations champion what matters most by directing grants, expertise, leadership, and other investments towards everything from shelter, education, and care for those in need, to the arts, environment and recreation.
Philanthropy takes time to do it right. The volunteers of the Foundation spend countless hours working with donors and the community to find the right fit. This takes patience, and understanding of our community as a whole.
Our volunteers are directly engaged with donors, non-profit organizations, grantees and government agencies. We are a diverse group, with insight into many social aspects of the North Coast and offer a broader perspective than many other support organizations. We take the long view on community well being, and are well positioned to address issues and take risks.
We manage forever funds. What does this mean? It means we have a pool of money that we continually grow with donations from philanthropists, like you. That money grows very safe interest pooled with other Community Foundations (to minimize risk, and maximize returns). Those returns are what we put back into the community, never touching the base pool assets. The more we can grow that pool, the more we can give away annually to the Community!
